Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are (1peter 5:8-9).
We need to be at alert in prayers, we may get tired of watching and praying because we don't see the enemy coming, but before the death of Christ, He asked his disciples to watch and pray so that they may not fall into temptation, but his disciples were sleeping. They actually do not know beforehand what would soon befall them so they could sleep. We need to ask God to show us things to come(Jeremiah 33:3), he said he will show us great and mighty things we do not know, if we call upon his name, so we will know is we should sleep or not.
We are often afraid of resisting the devil and standing firm in faith in Christ even when we have the authority to resist the devil and to stand against him in faith through our sufferings. Peter said we should remember that we are not the only one going through sufferings, so meaning that we are not alone in this.
God has given us the mandate to have dominion and take authority over snakes and scorpion and over all pricipalities and power and to bring every imagination subject to the authority of the most high God.
