God said he will give Adam a helper, comparable or suitable to him(Gen 2:18). Most men and women have interpreted 'helper' to mean 'slave'. Adam was to tend the garden, so God wanted Eve to help Adam tend the garden; advice, give opinions and helping hand.
Men shouldn't get married because they want good home cooking, knowing that the first food prepared by a woman drove the couple out of Eden, this could be a joke but it makes sense when we think about it.The effect of reducing women to possession is destruction and retrogresion.
In John 14:26 'Jesus said but the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.'. God mentioned the word 'Helper' in Genesis as a woman and in John as the Holy Spirit, So therefore there is a correlation.
The duties of the helper(wife), also called Advocate, comforter, counselor and paraclete;
1. is not to be just cook or domestic housewife, because if that is the only duty of the woman, one day she would poison him with the food(apple), a helper is to be a trainer and counsellor to children; the future leaders, and the nation's pride.
2. Is to be an advocate for her husband, to help him pleads his case before the court of God and man. Like the holy spirit intercedes for us, a wife should intercede for her husband.
3. Is to be a comforter, a comforter is someone there in time of grief, disappointment, discouragement, and so on, for eg Rebekah comforted Isaac on his mother's death (Gen 24:67).
4. Is to be the Husband's adviser, counsellor and instructor. Advising the man on the most appropriate way to follow, investments to take up, opportunities to hold on to and so on.
5. Is to be a teacher and reminder to the man of God's will and promises.
That is why we must be virtuous women, the all rounder, the one who is an international trader, a wife, mother, farmer, investor, the list goes on.
We can ask God to live up to our potential as wives, we are more than capable to be all these because God has imbibed it in us.
